Contacts Setup
Connect your address book to Chalie via CardDAV.
Connecting your address book
Chalie syncs contacts over CardDAV — the same open protocol your phone and desktop use to sync contacts.
Step by step
- Open the Brain panel (the ⚙️ icon in the sidebar)
- Switch to the Capabilities tab
- Find Contacts and toggle it on
- Enter your CardDAV connection details:
- Server URL — your provider’s CardDAV endpoint
- Username — typically your email address
- Password — your account password or app-specific password
- Click Test Connection to verify the sync works
Common provider URLs
| Provider | CardDAV URL |
|---|---|
| Google Contacts | https://www.googleapis.com/carddav/v1/principals/ |
| iCloud | https://contacts.icloud.com/ |
| Fastmail | https://carddav.fastmail.com/dav/addressbooks/ |
| Nextcloud | https://your-server.com/remote.php/dav/ |
| Radicale | https://your-server.com/ |
Google Contacts users
Like other Google services, CardDAV access requires an App Password:
- Go to myaccount.google.com
- Navigate to Security → 2-Step Verification → App passwords
- Create a new app password for “Contacts”
- Use the generated password in Chalie’s contacts settings
Troubleshooting
- No contacts found — verify the CardDAV URL points to your address book collection
- Authentication failed — check your credentials; Google/iCloud users need App Passwords
- Partial sync — some providers limit the number of contacts returned per request; large address books may take a moment to fully index
