A3 Problem Analysis

Comprehensive structured problem analysis covering background, root cause, countermeasures, and follow-up plan.

What it does

Comprehensive structured problem analysis covering background, root cause, countermeasures, and follow-up plan.

Procedure

When this skill is activated, Chalie follows these steps:

  1. Use memory to recall any prior context or past attempts related to the problem.
  2. Establish the background section: capture why this problem matters, who it affects, and its business or personal impact — use search to verify any facts or figures cited.
  3. Use memory to surface the current condition: record facts, data points, and examples of what is actually happening now.
  4. Define the goal or target using document as scratch space: specify what success looks like in measurable, time-bound terms.
  5. Apply 5 Whys or Fishbone thinking to identify the fundamental root cause, not just symptoms — use search to validate hypotheses against known patterns or documentation.
  6. Record countermeasures with document: list specific actions that address the root cause directly, categorised by timeframe (immediate, short-term, long-term).
  7. Note the implementation plan inline in document: specify who does what by when, including dependencies and milestones.
  8. Use document to save the completed A3 analysis, including success metrics, monitoring approach, and review dates to verify the fix holds.
